Enlist Policy

To Join

If you're interested in enlisting in the legion, you understand that, at its core, Once Written is a support group for authors and writers. It is not a place to sell yourself, find beta readers, editors, or cover artists. It is a place to learn, share what you have learned, talk about your stories, brainstorm, and have a good time with fellows who understand that talking to yourself is just business and in fact not talking to "yourself" at all.

The rules are simple:

  • Be Kind
  • Use Tasteful Word Choice (Limited Profanity)
  • *Remain Active
If there are no qualms thus far, see below on how to submit.

*Alert a moderator in the case of impending inactivity.

Submission Form:

(Please copy and paste the questions into an email and fill them out completely before sending.)

1. Do you understand and agree to follow the rules listed above (at the risk of dishonorable discharge)?

2. What genres do you to write?

3. Are you a published author? (If yes, please link to your Amazon author page; if no, you are more than welcome within our flock as you continue your journey!)

4. Why are you interested in joining the OWLs?

5. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

6. Last but not least, why do you write?

Please email your responses or any further questions to annestrykerauthor@gmail.com
We will respond within 48 business hours.

When I stumbled into this group, I had a basic idea of a story to publish and some motivation to keep at it, but I never would have dreamed of coming as far as I have. In a matter of weeks, thanks to the support and people in this group, I published my first novella. Since then, I have been featured in a newspaper. I am participating in a multi-author box set with best sellers. A bookish box will center around one of my books for Fantasy February, and so much more. Yes, I could have gotten where I am on my own, but I doubt it would have happened as quickly, and I know it wouldn't nearly have been quite as fun.

I joined this group right when I was getting out of a really bad bout with my depression and it had wrecked my writing and motivation and made it almost impossible to do anything with my writing career, but because of everyone here, I've undone so much of the damage and published another book and am about to finish my third book since joining. Not to mention my depression hasn't really hit me too bad again since I joined. Everybody here is so nice and inspiring and supportive.

I spent years not being able to write anything, and when I finally found the inspiration again I needed to be kept accountable. Once Written was a group that pushed me to keep writing, dealt with my bouts of doubt, and helped me figure out how writing would work best from me. They're a bunch of weirdos and sometimes make me want to poke them with a stick, but I doubt I would have finished 3 first drafts and one rewrite in the span of a year without them.
