ABOUT

Brought together by fate, united by folly, empowered by your fascination.

Who We Are:

A group of writers, united by a shared dream and the desire to see it brought forth into reality.

What We Do:

We write! And we support those who write by sharing our knowledge through trial and error so not all of us must fail as many times to succeed.

Why We Do It:

The OWLs who have traversed the cold world of publishing have experienced, first hand, how difficult it is to grow an audience, receive reviews, and generate buzz about their new releases. And it is well known, not every traditionally published book becomes a best seller. Many traditionally published books don't sell well at all.

It was for this reason the OWLs decided to band together and create a platform for writers, aspiring indie and traddie alike, to showcase their work and talent and receive the support we all need. While we are but a small group at the moment, we hope to grow into a community that reflects the diverse worlds we create or explore.

I spent years not being able to write anything, and when I finally found the inspiration again I needed to be kept accountable. Once Written was a group that pushed me to keep writing, dealt with my bouts of doubt, and helped me figure out how writing would work best from me. They're a bunch of weirdos and sometimes make me want to poke them with a stick, but I doubt I would have finished 3 first drafts and one rewrite in the span of a year without them.

When I stumbled into this group, I had a basic idea of a story to publish and some motivation to keep at it, but I never would have dreamed of coming as far as I have. In a matter of weeks, thanks to the support and people in this group, I published my first novella. Since then, I have been featured in a newspaper. I am participating in a multi-author box set with best sellers. A bookish box will center around one of my books for Fantasy February, and so much more. Yes, I could have gotten where I am on my own, but I doubt it would have happened as quickly, and I know it wouldn't nearly have been quite as fun.

I gave up. Completely. Deleted everything, told myself this wasn't for me. I wasn't a writer, would never be one either. I'm almost finished with my debut novella and plan to publish in April this year (2019), with four other works in my queue for the next two years. I would never dream of making this kind of progress on my own. But through the guidance and community of the Once Written Legion, I found my confidence, my voice, and the drive to pursue my passions. Now I'm actively writing everyday and working on a goal that was once a far off dream.
